  • Authorizes pharmacists to dispense naloxone without a prescription.
  • Anyone who, in good faith, seeks or obtains emergency medical help for an overdose victim, or the victim themselves, cannot be arrested, charged, prosecuted, convicted, or have property seized if the evidence was obtained as a result of seeking help

How to Use Narcan® (Naloxone)

If you suspect that someone is experiencing an opioid overdose, you should immediately administer Narcan® and then call 911 right away.8

Follow these steps on how to use Narcan®:8

  1. Hold the nasal spray device with your thumb on the bottom of the plunger.
  2. Insert the nozzle into either of the person’s nostrils.
  3. Press the plunger firmly to give the first dose.
  4. Wait 2-3 minutes to see if the person wakes up.
  5. If not, keep providing doses every 2-3 minutes until they wake up.
  6. Stay with the person until emergency assistance arrives.
