Addiction Treatment Therapies in Kansas City
In addition to treating the physical side of an addiction, it’s essential to address the underlying psychological factors that have fueled your substance use disorder.
At Empowered Recovery Center, we customize each patient’s treatment plan to include a number of therapy formats — including individual, group, and family — as well several therapy modalities, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma-informed therapy, holistic therapies, and more. By offering comprehensive addiction treatment therapies, Empowered Recovery Center can help you achieve lasting sobriety.
Types of Addiction Therapies
Your sobriety journey is unique; and because of that, your therapeutic treatment plan should be customized to what will best serve you in resolving your addiction. To create the most effective recovery road map possible, we offer a variety of therapies for addiction treatment for our patients.
After getting to know you, our team will curate a treatment plan with a combination of therapies — honing in on the methods and formats that will most benefit you. From individual to group to family sessions, you’ll get the opportunity to unpack the deeper reasons behind your addiction on your own and with the support of others.
Individual Therapy
In individual therapy for addiction, you work with one of our compassionate licensed therapists one-on-one. In this judgment-free space, you have the ability to talk through issues you may never have felt safe discussing before.
Our therapist will use a variety of modalities, including CBT, DBT, trauma therapy, and more, to guide you in addressing the psychological barriers that have been limiting your life. From negative thought patterns to traumatic experiences, you’ll have the opportunity to work through any underlying issues affecting your addiction.
Group Therapy
Isolation and loneliness are some of addiction’s strongest allies. When you remove yourself from your family, your friends, and your community, it’s easy to convince yourself that no one understands your addiction, and no one can help.
In reality, there are many people struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders just like you are. In group sessions of substance use disorder therapies, you’re able to hear others’ stories about what led to their drug use disorder or alcohol use disorder.
People often find that they have much more empathy when hearing about someone else’s struggles; and in group therapy, a trained therapist can use methods like CBT, DBT, holistic, and trauma-informed therapy to help you turn that compassion toward yourself.
Family Therapy
The effects of addiction spread far beyond the patient themselves. In family addiction therapy sessions, a therapist will lead you and your loved one(s) through a dialogue to resolve conflicts, address feelings of hurt, anger, or shame, and rebuild a healthy foundation of communication.
Different types of addiction therapy resonate with different families. While some families may connect with trauma therapy, others may find results through DBT, CBT, or holistic therapeutic options. No matter the combination, our clinical team will find the best therapy type for you and your loved ones.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is one of the most widely accepted forms of therapy for treating addiction. CBT is based on the idea that psychological problems (and addictive behaviors) come from learned patterns of unhelpful thinking.1
Our therapy team uses CBT to help patients recognize that their old way of thinking only led to negative results. Instead of using that old mindset, our therapists teach our patients new, healthier ways to cope with difficult situations in life.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Many people with an addiction also struggle to regulate their emotions. This can include everything from having heated arguments with your spouse to bottling all your feelings up.
Our therapists help our patients use acceptance (of themselves and their emotions) to move away from their self-destructive behaviors. While DBT can be valuable for many people, it can be particularly effective for patients struggling with co-occurring disorders such as major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and borderline personality disorder.2
Trauma Therapy
Approximately 70% of people experience a traumatic event at some point in their lives.3 A wide range of dangerous, shocking, or fear-inducing situations can be qualified as traumatic4 and these events can have lingering effects on your mental, emotional, and physical health.
Many patients wrestling with a substance use disorder have experienced some level of trauma in their lives. Trauma-informed therapy is designed to help a patient acknowledge the impact of a traumatic event and learn how to develop resilience to heal and move forward.
Does Insurance Cover Addiction Therapies?
Nearly every insurance plan covers addiction therapy services. The Affordable Care Act designated mental, behavioral, and substance use treatment as essential health benefits — meaning they are regarded just as seriously as any physical health condition.
Each insurance plan is unique and provides a different amount of coverage. To learn exactly how much your insurance plan will cover, contact your insurance company directly. You can also contact our admissions team, who can verify your insurance benefits online. After the verification, they’ll be able to give you specific information about your plan and answer any questions about how to use your insurance at Empowered Recovery Kansas City.
