Virtual Addiction Treatment and Rehab Options in KC

Virtual rehab can make addiction treatment more accessible for people who have responsibilities that make attending in-person care difficult. Whether you’re balancing work, caring for your family, attending school, or managing other commitments, virtual treatment allows you to receive evidence-based support from the comfort of your home. While online rehab offers many benefits, it isn’t the right choice for everyone, and the most appropriate level of care depends on your unique needs and recovery goals.

If you’re wondering whether you can attend rehab virtually or if online treatment is the right fit for your situation, understanding your options is the first step. Read on to learn more about virtual addiction treatment or contact our Kansas City addiction treatment center today to discuss your needs and find out whether one of our virtual treatment programs is right for you.

Can I Attend Rehab Virtually/Online?

Yes, remote rehab programs and virtual addiction treatment is widely available, including in the Kansas City area. Virtual addiction treatment allows you to attend a program from the comfort of your home. The exact program and schedule will depend on your unique needs. Still, these programs are an excellent option if you need more flexibility in your treatment schedule.1

Virtual Rehab Programs in Kansas City (MO & KS)

All of our outpatient programs at Empowered Recovery Kansas City have virtual or hybrid options. You can participate in the same programming without worrying about logistics. The appropriate level of care can vary depending on the severity of your addiction and your personal situation.

That said, you’ll still need to complete detox, if necessary, before starting treatment. You’ll also still participate in regular drug tests to stay on track in your journey. You can complete any of our levels of care virtually, including partial hospitalization programs (PHPs), intensive outpatient programs (IOPs), and standard outpatient care.

Virtual PHP Rehab

Our virtual PHP is our highest level of outpatient care. This in-depth program offers a personalized treatment plan tailored to your recovery goals and needs. You’ll participate in 20-30 hours of evidence-based interventions weekly, including therapy, life skills training, holistic approaches, and more.

A virtual PHP provides more supervision and support in treating addiction and co-occurring disorders. These programs can be a good fit if you’re in early recovery or don’t have the flexibility to attend inpatient rehab due to daily responsibilities. The structured approach of PHP can also be beneficial for those stepping down from a residential program or returning to treatment after experiencing a relapse.

Virtual IOP Rehab

If you’re looking for a balance of structure and independence, our virtual IOP may be the right fit. This remote addiction treatment program provides between 9 and 20 hours of weekly care over 3 to 5 days. We offer a wide range of expert-backed approaches in group and individual therapy sessions, as well as family therapy if necessary.

You can choose from two schedules, including morning sessions from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and evening sessions from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. A virtual IOP can be a good option if you’re just starting recovery or looking to bridge the gap after completing a residential program or PHP. We offer ongoing assistance to help you transition back to everyday life after treatment.

Virtual Standard OP Rehab

As our least intensive level of care, a virtual standard OP offers the most flexibility. You can continue to get to the root of addiction while rebuilding your life in recovery. We provide similar proven approaches, such as individual, group, and family therapy, at a lower intensity.

Most standard OPs provide about 1 to 8 hours of treatment per week over 1 to 2 days.2 Morning and evening sessions are also available for your convenience. Virtual OP sessions can be beneficial if you have a mild substance use disorder (SUD) or have already completed more intensive treatment.

Who Is Virtual/Online Rehab For?

Online rehab is ideal if you have a mild to moderate SUD. It can be valuable for those who are further along in their journey and need flexibility for work, school, family, or other responsibilities. These programs are also a great fit if you live far away from a treatment center or lack reliable transportation.1

An online drug rehab typically isn’t appropriate for people with severe SUDs.1 Having ongoing support in a structured inpatient environment is often a better fit.3 Furthermore, virtual treatment generally isn’t suitable if you don’t have a safe and sober home environment.1 Because virtual care is delivered remotely, having a stable and supportive setting is important for staying engaged in your journey.1 A reliable home computer and Wi-Fi connection are also essential for virtual treatment.1

Benefits of Virtual/Online Rehab Programs

Virtual alcohol rehab and virtual drug rehab programs offer several benefits that can help you tailor treatment to fit your lifestyle. These programs offer flexibility and remove barriers to care that can deter or interrupt your healing journey. Here are some top benefits of online rehab:1

  • Flexibility for work, school, and family obligations
  • Increased access for people with disabilities
  • Increased access for those with unreliable transportation or who live in remote areas
  • More affordable compared to inpatient treatment
  • Less travel expenses (i.e., gas, public transportation)

Will Insurance Still Cover Virtual Addiction Treatment?

Yes, most insurance providers offer at least partial coverage for online alcohol rehab, with some plans covering it completely. Many insurance plans cover virtual addiction treatment, though coverage varies by provider and individual plan. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires all insurance companies to cover essential health benefits to some degree, including mental health and addiction treatment.4

That said, your level of coverage will vary depending on your exact health plan.4 If you’re wondering about remote drug rehab coverage or remote alcohol rehab coverage, our team can help. We’ll work with you to verify your benefits online and understand what your specific plan covers.
